Bishop McKinley B. Johnson, Sr., is the Senior Pastor of the Greater St. John’s Church of God in Albany, NY. Born in Albany and is a lifelong native of Albany, NY. He is the 2nd born child to the late, legendary Albany religious Icon, Supt. John “Jack” and Dorothy Johnson. It was in 1957 that Bishop Johnson married his childhood sweetheart, the vivacious, anointed “Lady Florine “Sue” Johnson.” They have been married for 67 years. They have (6) children, (17) grandchildren, (15) great-grandchildren.
In 1957 he began his preaching ministry. During the year 1971 he became the Director of Youth Activities for West #1 NY Jurisdiction. Bishop McKinley Johnson is widely known as the President of the original “YOUTH EXPLOSION,” a youth organization he established in 1972. For (33) years the Youth Explosion brought together thousands of youths from across America to a dynamic, explosive weekend Youth Conference. He has traveled for over 50 years conducting revivals, and marriage seminars with his wife of 67 years. In 1998, he was appointed as the Northeast Regional Director for the International Youth Dept. in COGIC. After serving faithfully under his father for (42) years as the Assistant Pastor, in 2000 he became the Sr. Pastor of Greater St. Johns Church.
Currently, he is the CEO and founder of the St. Johns Community Development Corporation. Civically and sociably, he was one of ten persons chosen to represent Albany, NY at President Clinton’s Summit on Youth in Philadelphia, Pa. Recently, he just stepped down as the President but stays an active member of The Albany African American Clergy for Empowerment organization. Bishop Johnson participates as a Board member of several Community Organizations. The countless recipient of many community awards to mention for Social Justice and Community Advocacy groups. He graduated with high honors and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from SUNY of Albany, NY and continuing to work towards his Master of Divinity degree at Mid-American Bible School of Theology.
Bishop McKinley Johnson is deeply committed to family, church, community, and humanity. He just wants to continue the spiritual and community legacy from his father and leave a mark on this generation to pave a brighter path for the next one!!
