Today’s Achievers are Tomorrow’s Leaders

I am a 5-star ambassador. I represent myself, my family, my community, my school, and my race with pride, dignity, and excellence. I am an Achiever!

The Black and Latino Achievers program is a dynamic initiative to empower and support young individuals from Black and Latino communities to reach their full potential. This program recognizes the unique challenges faced by Black and Latino youth and seeks to provide them with the resources, mentorship, and opportunities necessary for academic and personal success. The Achievers program is an academic achievement/career development program for Middle School and High School youth and teens of color. The name “Black Achievers” represents and describes the historical origin and mission. However today, the Achievers program is like the national YMCA movement, multi-racial.

Objectives:

  • Provide role models and mentors whose success and knowledge will inspire youth.
  • Expose youth to diverse career options.
  • Raise academic standards and improve college readiness.
  • Help youth develop a positive sense of self.
  • Build character and increase positive assets of youth.
  • Create channels for continuing community involvement by business and industry.
  • Recognize and promote excellence among youth participants and adult volunteers.

The program fee of $250 annually helps create invaluable opportunities and experiences for local students from grades 7-12 as they explore and plan their futures. These experiences facilitate informed decisions about the direction in which their lives move. Limited scholarships are available.

An ideal Achiever is a teen ready to grow and thrive in the Black and Latino Achiever program. While every participant’s journey is unique, the program is designed to help them reach their full potential and create a sustainable path for success. Our Achievers come from a community where opportunities may be limited but is eager to break barriers, may have faced challenges such as economic hardship, lack of mentorship, or exposure to systemic inequities, and has a desire to succeed academically, personally, and professionally.

The ideal Achiever graduates high school with a clear plan for college, trade school, or entrepreneurship, striving for financial independence and long-term stability. They become role models for peers and younger participants, using their experiences to uplift others. Committed to giving back, they grow into mentors, leaders, and advocates, ensuring a lasting impact on their community.
