The YMCA's Legacy of Helping with Parkinson's Disease Management
For more than a decade, the Capital District YMCA has stood alongside individuals and families affected by Parkinson’s disease, building a legacy of care, connection, and proven results.
It began with Pedaling for Parkinson’s, inspired by groundbreaking research at the Cleveland Clinic showing a 35% reduction in symptoms for participants pedaling at a rapid pace — optimally 80–90 revolutions per minute. While not a cure, this evidence-based program has offered real, measurable benefits to many who have embraced it.
From that starting point, our commitment deepened. We introduced Ping Pong for Parkinson's, Neuromotor Wellness Training, Boxing, and more — each program designed to foster mobility, strength, and social connection.
Now, we take the next step in our journey.
The Capital District YMCA proudly launches the Parkinson’s Center of the Capital Region, opening in November of this year.
This dedicated space serves as a welcoming, supportive hub for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders — and for the families who walk alongside them.
With over a decade of experience offering Parkinson’s-specific programming, the Capital District YMCA is actively expanding its commitment to community wellness through a center designed to meet both physical and emotional needs in one inclusive, empowering environment.
